At Albuquerque Vision Care and Advanced Eyewear, we strive for you to have the clearest vision possible. Our optometrists provide pre and post-operative eye care for our patients when they undergo LASIK eye surgery.
What is LASIK Surgery?
LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileuses) surgery is a procedure that corrects a variety of vision problems, including – nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. We use the latest technology to provide precise results and faster recovery.
Who Qualifies for LASIK Surgery?
To qualify for LASIK surgery, you will need to meet specific requirements, including:
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must be in good health.
- You cannot be pregnant or nursing.
Several other factors must be considered. Pre-existing conditions may complicate laser eye surgery or increase the risk of complications. Consult with your optometrist regarding your eligibility and expectations.
How Safe is LASIK Surgery?
For most people, LASIK surgery comes with minimal risks. The surgery is done on the delicate part of the eye, so complications are possible but rare especially when taking into account the many advances in medical technology over the years.
What Can I Expect After the Procedure?
After LASIK surgery, we will schedule a follow-up visit in our Albuquerque office. The aftercare appointments occur over the next six months. After a year, we will perform a full exam to inspect the results of the LASIK procedure.
LASIK Surgery and You
LASIK improves vision in most patients. There is no guarantee that the patient will achieve 20/20 vision. People with high myopia or high hyperopia will see improvement, but not completely corrected vision. The eye doctor will explain any of the potential risks involved in the procedure and what expectations to have in the months ahead.
LASIK surgery has permanent effects. However, a patient’s eye can still change internally after the procedure. Consult with your eye care specialist for what treatment method best suits you and your eye health.
